Embossing Prices And Premium Paper Samples

Today I have had a couple of requests to see the paper options available or the cost of making a die set up adequately for embossing. These are common questions that I deal with regularly so I thought I would illustrate these 2 questions as best as I can.

1) My first message sent to me was from Steve in Texas

Question

Do you print blind embossed folded cards, or can you direct me to a vendor who does?

Answer

Hi Steve: Yes we do print fold over cards. Do you have a design in mind? If possible send us an image file or design specs and we would be happy to assist you in anyway!

2) My second message sent to me was from Rick in Illinois.

He wants a business card that has an appealing look of elegance. His ideas are to incorporate a foil stamp effect, blind emboss effect with black text printed. Rick is an expert in his field and has been credited with some very impressive awards. My suggestion was to add iconic representations of loges that illustrate the awards. This can be a major credibility booster and should not be overlooked.

Rick and I have worked together to develop the finished look . Now we are ready to print and the question arises, “What paper should be used?” Rick’s idea is to use a grey, rice looking paper, but he is thousands of miles away. In cases where a client has a card in hand they are trying to match there are a couple of reliable ways to communicate this to the printer…

  • Provide an actual name such as “Strathmore Writing Cover 272.m, cool ice grey” This information is generally identified by the merchant selling the material or the manufacturer themselves.
  • Snail mail the example to your printer and they will come up with an exact match or a reasonable facsimile

In this case we have swatch books of standard premium papers that we provide at affordable prices because we pre-purchase in bulk. In response to Rick, below I have placed a few images of high resolution scans of the standard materials we provide for embossed business cards.
